The object of the IPPS is the provision of specialized postgraduate-level knowledge in the science of Hydrocarbons and its applications in exploration and research, as well as in hydrocarbon production activities, and the advancement of knowledge in research development and the training of specialized scientists through teaching, field exercises, research projects, and visits to sites related to the hydrocarbon industry.

Studying at MSc of the Department of Geology and obtaining the Postgraduate Diploma (MS) corresponds to 120 ECTS. In particular, the student’s workload depends on the course and is shown in detail by the ECTS in the table below. The Master Dissertation (M.D.) is valued at thirty (20) credits. As the language of instruction and language of preparation of the M.D., Greek or English are defined.
The courses that each postgraduate student must attend per semester are determined by the relevant Course Program. The follow-up program of students accepted from the category of workers in the Hydrocarbons industry (Article 4) is determined on a case-by-case basis by the E.D.E., or for the evaluation, exams and preparation of the M.D., the program applicable to all is normally followed.
With these data, the MSc is structured and illustrated, at the level of credit units, as follows: A’ Semester = 30 ECTS, B’ Semester = 30 ECTS, C’ Semester = 30, D’ Semester = 30 ECTS (10 ECTS courses, 20 ECTS Diploma thesis). Specifically, the total number of ECTS for the first semester is 30. In the second semester there are six (6) compulsory courses and two optional courses from which students are required to choose one, thus completing a total of ECTS for the second semester also 30 ECTS. The six (6) courses of the third semester are all compulsory. The total number of ECTS for the third Semester is 30. The fourth semester includes four (4) courses, all compulsory as well as the preparation of the M.D., also compulsory. The total number of ECTS for the fourth semester is 30.
